||Russell Park is one of the parks on Lake Georgetown that are connected by the
Good Water Loop of the San Gabriel River Trail.
Portions of this park require a fee, but access to the trail is free.
In some of the parks on Lake Georgetown, the San Gabriel River Trail is a nice, easy walk on a concrete path, but Russell Park is much different. The trail is very rocky and relatively steep. In spring, look for Golden-cheeked Warblers in the cedar, but don't expect much else.
However, when you get to the bottom, the wide river valley will offer you much more variety. Shorebirds, waterfowl, sparrows, raptors, and many more things are possible, but they will likely be far away, so bring your scope.
