||Aquarena Center is built around San Marcos Springs which are the headwaters of the San Marcos River. Today this facility is owned by Texas State University, but it was originally an amusement park called Aquarena Springs, and many people still call it by that name.
This facility went through a large renovation project in 2012, removing many old structures left over from the amusement park and restoring native plants.
On the southwest side of the property is a boardwalk loop that goes out into the San Marcos River, and you can walk along the river's edge looking in the brushy, swampy areas, but keep an eye out for golfers. The north end of the property has an extensive set of trails in the hills.
Aquarena Center runs glass-bottomed boat tours throughout the day, so consider taking a break from walking and see the river from a different perspective.
